2020 Graduation Video/Cap & Gown Pickup

Hello parents, guardians, and students of the Class of 2020,
We hope you are all doing well. We are happy to announce our graduation plans for the Class of 2020. Our student body leadership team, parents, administration, cabinet members, and board members have all worked collaboratively to create a plan for our seniors while mandated social distancing guidelines are in place. Our Graduation Video Days will be a mixture of a virtual graduation and in-person graduation following social distancing guidelines. Our tentative plan for a traditional graduation is to conduct the event at the Save Mart Center on August 13, 2020 (pending CDPH guidelines).

In order to prepare for the Grad Video, students will need to pick up their cap and gown on May 12th at Central High School – East CampusCLICK HERE for a date, time, and pick- up location. When students pick up their cap and gown they will receive an appointment card for the date, time, and location of their Grad Video. During cap and gown distribution, social distancing guidelines must be followed. Failure to follow social distancing guidelines could result in loss of privilege for the Grad Video. Students must pass the required classes in order to graduate. Students will be edited out of the video if required classes and credits are not attained.

The filming of our graduates will take place on May 14th and 15th from 8am-4pm in the form of a Grad Video. Students will be given appointment cards with a date, time, and location for their Grad Video with their caps and gowns. Students are to be driven by their families to the Grad Video location. At the Grad Video, students will exit their car and walk across a stage that will be set up for a video shoot. Students will be recorded walking across the stage as well as taking a photo with a diploma case. Families are welcome to cheer for their graduation from the car, but will be required to stay in the car. During this time of social distancing restrictions, we must limit one car per graduate. After the walk across the stage is complete, students will return to their car and exit school grounds. Students and parents should not congregate on or off school grounds.

The video recordings will be edited into one Graduation Ceremony complete with the Principals’ and class presidents’ speeches. The video will premiere on June 11 on social media outlets and potentially on a television channel (specific details on that will follow). While we understand that this ceremony is not traditional, we want to make the class of 2020 graduation a special event that can be celebrated with close family members and the community. Congratulations Central High class of 2020!
