WORK PERMITS

**WORK PERMITS ISSUED PRIOR TO THE START OF THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR WILL EXPIRE ON AUGUST 31st!  BE SURE TO RENEW YOUR PERMIT AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!**

Minors employed in the state of California must have a Permit to Employ and Work (commonly referred to as a “work permit”). Work permits are typically issued by the school where the student is enrolled.

2) Get the application signed by yourself, a parent, and your employer.

3) Return the work permit application to the basket in the College & Career Center.

4) Pick up your completed permit from Mrs. Lynd 24 hours later.

Work Permit FAQ's:
1) I don't have a printer at home, how can I get a copy of the permit application?
There are copies of the work permit application in the front office and in the College & Career Center.
2) Do I need a work permit before I get a job?
You do not need to turn in the application until it has been signed by the student, parent AND the employer.
3) Do work permits expire?
Yes. Work permits issued before August 10th, 2023 will expire on August 31st, 2023.  If a student will continue to work past August 31st at the same job, they will need to RENEW their permit at the start of the 2023-2024 school year with their school's career center.
4) If I get a new job do I need a new permit?
The permit is a contract between the employer and the school.  So yes, if you get a new employer, you need a new permit.
5) Do I need a work permit if I'm 18?
No, a work permit is only required for minors.
6) Can I work more hours than the work permit says?
Seniors can apply for Work Experience which is a special type of permit that allows students to work later and work more hours than a traditional work permit.  Please see Mrs. Lynd if you're interested in more information.
7) What if I get a job over summer and school is not in session to obtain work permit?
Students can take their completed, signed work permit applications to the CUSD District Office- Room 13 over the summer when school is not in session.
